By the Bay Health volunteers are essential partners in our mission. Whether supporting patients directly or helping behind the scenes, there are many ways to make a meaningful difference and a lasting impact.
Explore three volunteer paths with training and ongoing support.
Patient care volunteers offer companionship, emotional support, and respite for caregivers while visiting patients wherever they call home. After completing training, volunteers provide a comforting presence through regular visits, helping patients and families feel supported during the hospice journey. Many describe the experience as deeply meaningful and rewarding.
Complementary care volunteers use specialized skills to enhance comfort and quality of life for patients and families. Opportunities may include massage therapy, music, pet companionship, and other supportive services based on volunteer qualifications and program needs. Volunteers work alongside the care team to create meaningful moments of comfort and connection.
Organization support volunteers help advance By the Bay Health’s mission through administrative support, fundraising, community outreach, Hodgepodge thrift stores, and the Comfort Bears program. Whether supporting behind the scenes or engaging with the community, these volunteers help make compassionate care possible for more patients and families.
Volunteers are matched to roles based on community needs and availability. Some opportunities may have a waitlist.

Qualified applicants may be invited to participate in phone screenings, interviews, or additional conversations based on the selected role.
